Legal guarantee of conformity
Concept Revised October 22, 2026 Also called: legal guarantee, conformity guarantee
Briefly. This is the protection provided by law that requires the seller to deliver a conforming item and to repair or replace one that has a defect.
Detailed definition
This guarantee applies to the purchase of an item from a professional. It does not depend on a paid option or on the manufacturer's commercial guarantee, and it is exercised with the seller.
The legal guarantee of conformity lasts 2 years from delivery of the item, for a new, refurbished, or used product.
A real case
A new paddle delaminates after little normal use: the buyer invokes the legal guarantee with the seller.
Your questions
Who handles a legal guarantee claim?
The seller of the product, not necessarily the manufacturer. The detailed procedures are on the service-public page.
